Splash Around Sarasota This Summer at These 5 Parks

Sand and saltwater free, bring your kids to these splash areas and playgrounds to give them a day filled with refreshing fun and laughter.

Simmer down your summer and head to one of our family-friendly parks with water features for your kids—without the entrance fee of waterparks and aquatic facilities. Splash pads are a great way to keep your little ones cool and refreshed during the hot summer months. And did we mention no sand in the car from the beach? While award-winning beaches in Sarasota County may prove tempting, this is a salt-free alternative with some perks.

These five parks are especially great if your little ones can't swim yet—as leaping around in a splash zone is a perfect way to get them cooled off and having fun. These areas are also great for your children to be able to meet fellow kids their age and keep them occupied for hours on end!

1. Bayfront Park  - Downtown Sarasota

Recently revitalized, Bayfront Park's Steigerwaldt-Jockey Children’s Fountain now features interactive water elements that children can control the flow of. The adjacent shipwreck-themed playground boasts climbing structures and shaded seating areas for parents to chill—all set against the scenic backdrop of Sarasota Bay and Marina Jack. The park is open daily from 7 am-11 pm.

2. Downtown Wellen Park - North Port

Situated under a majestic 100-year-old oak tree, the splash pad at Downtown Wellen Park offers a shaded oasis for children to play and spray. The newly developed community space also includes a playground, a kayak launch, an amphitheater for live outdoor music and nearby dining options by the water—making it a perfect family outing destination.

3. Waterside Place - Lakewood Ranch

Located within Waterside Place, the sprawling 8 acres known as Waterside Park features a splash zone alongside other family-fun amenities—including volleyball courts, walking paths, an event lawn, shaded pavilions and hammocks. The park's scenic setting on Kingfisher Lake provides a tranquil environment for both play and relaxation. Splash pad hours start at 10 am and end at 5-6 pm (depending on season).

4. Payne Park - Downtown Sarasota

Payne Park is an intricate circus circus-themed play space exploding with color and creative jungle gyms and one particularly popular summertime feature: the splash area. Located downtown, this park is home to a playground safe for toddlers, along with a main playground capturing the interest of kids of all ages. Kids can climb on the circus animals, slide down slides to catch the wind, run through the misting circles and jump around in the small splash area to beat the heat.

5. Centennial Park Children's Foundation - Venice

Load up the car with the family, towels and sunscreen and find yourself having a memorable summer day at Centennial Park. Located in Historic Downtown Venice, the park's Children's Fountain offers a free interactive water experience for kiddos to let loose and parents to catch some rest and shade in the iconic gazebo. The fountain is open daily from 9:30 am-9:30 pm.
